For parents
A character you can explain.
Talkicorn is meant to be used with a grown-up nearby. This page says what the calls do, and what they refuse to do.
Not medical advice
Luna is a practice buddy. She is not a speech-language pathologist, a doctor, or a medical device. A call cannot diagnose a speech or language disorder, measure clinical progress, or replace care from a qualified professional. If you are worried about your child's speech, start with your pediatrician. More on that in when to talk with an SLP.
No stranger chat
Your child talks to a character: a unicorn, a dinosaur, a kid their own age, or another friend. They are not placed in a room with other children or with adults they do not know. Pip is a peer, never a grown-up. There is no open profile, no friend requests, and no way for a stranger to message your child.
The kid path does not browse the open web. Friends do not search, do not open links, and do not fetch pages to read aloud. Replies are either written in the app or, if you configure a model key, generated from that character's closed prompt. The model is not given a browser.
Parent-managed, even before accounts
A guest call is something a parent starts and ends. A parent account, if you create one, is an email and password for billing on this browser. It is not a child account. Please don't ask your child to share a last name, address, school, phone number, or photo. If they say a first name, the friend may repeat it during that call. It stays in the browser tab.
We are writing this with children's privacy in mind. The parent should be the one in charge of any data a product keeps. Voice minutes for the fair-use cap are counted in this browser. They are not a recording of the call.
Where the audio goes
With an xAI key, the live call uses Grok speech-to-speech. The microphone audio goes to xAI for that call, and the friend speaks with the Eve voice. The API key stays on the server. The child path still has no web search. Without a key, the browser's Web Speech tools are the demo voice, and a banner says so. Chrome's recognizer may send audio to Google in that demo.
The browser does the listening and the speaking. Safari's speech recognition is provided by Apple and may run on the device, depending on the system version and settings. Chrome's Web Speech recognition is different: in current Chrome it typically sends audio to Google's speech service. That is the browser, not a Talkicorn upload. If that is not acceptable for your family, use the type box instead of the microphone, or skip the call.
Tap End, or leave the page, and the microphone session stops. You can also revoke microphone permission in the browser at any time.
If something feels wrong
Friends are written to point a child toward a grown-up they trust if they say something serious. They cannot contact help, and they should not be the person a child tells instead of you. Stay nearby for calls, especially the first ones. When the free listen or the monthly minutes need a decision, the child hears “ask a grown-up” and you see the choice.
Questions about how a call feels in practice are on how it works.
